Signal Mountain Bids Farewell to The Pizza Place After 35 Years of Community Memories

Signal Mountain’s Beloved Pizza Place Set to Close After 35 Years

Signal Mountain has been home to many cherished establishments, but none perhaps as iconic as The Pizza Place. For over 35 years, this franchise has been a cozy haven for pizza lovers, families, and community gatherings alike. Its owner, Paul Roberts, has dedicated over half his life to cultivating this beloved restaurant. However, after much contemplation and heartache, Mr. Roberts has announced that he will be closing the doors of The Pizza Place at the end of this month.

A Fond Farewell

It’s hard to imagine Signal Mountain without the inviting aroma of freshly baked pizza and the sound of laughter resonating from the restaurant. But, as Mr. Roberts describes, the last few years have not been easy. Since the onset of the pandemic, the landscape for local businesses has changed dramatically. “We’ve been fighting to keep afloat,” Mr. Roberts said with a heavy heart. “Unfortunately, business just isn’t what it used to be. I find myself in a position where I have less than I had when I first started the restaurant.”

Roberts’ story is a testament to his unfaltering dedication. He poured his heart, soul, and considerable resources into maintaining The Pizza Place during challenging times. However, despite his best efforts, it’s clear that even the most cherished establishments can struggle.

Community Comes Together

In light of this upcoming closure, a GoFundMe campaign has been initiated by community advocate Makenzie Willis. She explained the effort saying, “The purpose of this GoFundMe is to build a ‘retirement fund’ to help replace some of the money that was invested into staying open for so long.” This past year has revealed how tight-knit the community of Signal Mountain truly is, as friends, neighbors, and loyal customers rally together to support one of their own. With donations pouring in, the hope is to provide Mr. Roberts some peace of mind as he closes this chapter of his life.

Exciting New Ventures in Town

1208 King St., Unit 120, led by Brian Joyce, well-known as the co-owner of the former Blue Light bar. After a two-year stint on Station Street, Joyce is back in action with plans to bring something fresh and vibrant to the nightlife scene in Signal Mountain. It’s always nice to see new endeavors springing up as one ends, and there’s hope that Joyce’s venture will be just as beloved.

A Taste of Community Spirit

Additionally, residents can enjoy a delightful evening of food and music this coming Friday at the community event title “Food Truck Friday” in Red Bank. Organizers are excited to provide families and friends with a wide selection of delicious foods from local food trucks, creating a warm atmosphere for everyone to mingle, eat, and celebrate community spirit. It’s opportunities like these that serve to bring the community together, showing how even in challenging times, there is joy to be found in shared experiences.

The American Dream Continues

Meanwhile, on a parallel note, the spirit of entrepreneurship thrives within the community. John Petros has operated his restaurant, Epicurean, in East Ridge, embodying the definition of the American Dream. Now at the age of 90, Mr. Petros has built a legacy worth celebrating, though he humbly admits that he’s ready to step back and pass on the reins. His journey inspires not just aspiring restaurant owners but every local who’s ever dreamed of building a little piece of the world around them.

As Signal Mountain bids farewell to The Pizza Place, the community is reminded of the importance of supporting local businesses and embracing new adventures together. It’s a bittersweet time, balanced by hope and excitement for the future.
