Chattanooga’s Olgiati Bridge to Transform into SportSpot
CHATTANOOGA – Residents of Chattanooga are in for a unique and exciting treat this fall. River City Co. has announced a new initiative called SportSpot, a pop-up sports experience set to take place under the Olgiati Bridge. This event is part of the larger “Evolving our Riverfront Parks” project aimed at shaping the Riverfront District’s future, and it will give locals a chance to partake in free outdoor activities while providing their feedback on potential design changes.
The pop-up event will kick off on Friday, Sept. 6, and run through Sunday, Oct. 20. During this period, from 9 a.m. to sunset every day, a variety of sports and activities will be available for participants of all ages. Here’s what’s on offer:
- Two pickleball courts in September (equipment provided)
- Two basketball courts in October (equipment provided)
- A pump track by White Oak Bicycle Co-Op (bring your own bike)
- A roller rink by Dazey Skate Co. (bring your own skates or go during the scheduled workshop for free skate rentals)
Emily Mack, President and CEO of River City Co., emphasized the importance of community input in the planning process. “The next step in the planning process is to create design documents, so it is very important for us to hear more from the community on how spaces could function in the future,” she said.
In addition to the sports activities, the area will be spruced up with a bright mural and various plants, helping residents envision what the space could look like in the future. The goal is to collect as much feedback as possible to make informed decisions about permanent changes to the Riverfront District.

Before heading out, participants should keep a few important rules in mind:
- All activities require signed waivers by participants, and guardians must sign for those under 18.
- No pets or smoking are allowed in the sports area.
- Bikes are permitted only on the pump track.
- The pop-up experience will take a brief pause from Sunday, Sept. 22 through Thursday, Oct. 3.
The schedule is also subject to change, with new events and programming being added over time. Keep an eye out for special days like senior days, inclusive play days, and other exciting additions.
