Chattanooga’s SportSpot Transforms Riverfront Park into a Family Fun Zone

Chattanooga’s SportSpot: A Unique Playground for All Ages

When you think of the perfect spot for a kids’ birthday party, a highway bridge probably doesn’t come to mind. But in Chattanooga, that’s just a part of the charm at SportSpot, a fascinating test project aimed at redefining the way we enjoy our riverfront parks. Now in its second season, this innovative recreation space is welcoming families to come out and play in ways you might not expect!

Fresh Features and All-Age Fun

SportSpot has expanded its offerings to include two 3×3 basketball courts, a thrilling pump track, and a vibrant roller-skating rink. Every weekend is brimming with exciting activities suitable for folks of all ages, so there’s something for everyone to enjoy. Emily Mack, the President and CEO of River City Company, shared, “We saw families with children as young as two years old playing on a regular basis. It is the perfect place if you are thinking of out-of-the-box ideas for fall break.”

Your Weekend Adventure Awaits

SportSpot is open daily from 9 AM until sunset and best of all, it’s completely free! The lineup of special events is super exciting. Here are a few highlights:

  • October 5th and 12th: Skateboard “Pump Pop-Up” with Cassette Skate Shop
  • October 9th: “How to Pump” workshop with White Oak Bicycle Co-Op
  • October 6th, 13th, and 19th: Free roller skating with Dazey Skates
  • October 13th: Meet and Greet with the Chattanooga Roller Derby

An online survey is being conducted to gather feedback from participants, allowing the community to play a role in shaping the future of SportSpot.

Why People Love SportSpot

Responses from recent visitors have been overwhelmingly positive. One person mentioned, “I love that they had multiple sports for everyone to choose from. The rink has always been my favorite activity, and it was so nice to have it by the water. I would recommend it to everyone if it were to become a permanent spot.”

Another family shared their enthusiasm: “So cool! The bike ramps were great for our 3 and 6-year-old. We would love to see this as a permanent concept and would definitely bring our kids.”

And let’s not forget about the adults! One visitor remarked, “The roller-skating rink! I recently just got into roller skating a couple of years ago, and it’s been hard to find other adults who skate. I’m in my 30s – Lots of people think it’s just for kids, but that’s not true. Adults can have fun too!

Join the Fun in Chattanooga!

With all these thrilling offerings, SportSpot has become a go-to location for families looking to make lasting memories. Whether it’s playing basketball, testing your skills on a bike, or gliding on roller skates, there’s no age limit to the fun you can have!

To keep up with all the events and activities, you can check the full schedule online. And remember, as the city continues to evolve its riverfront park plans, your voice can make a difference too. Take part in the survey and help shape what’s to come!
