UTC Set To Host Spring Meacham Writers’ Workshop Highlighted by Renowned Christina Catherine Martinez

The city of Chattanooga is all set for an enriching celebration of words and creativity as the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga (UTC) prepares to host their Spring Meacham Writers’ Workshop this year. This highly anticipated event will take place from March 21-23 at multiple locations within the UTC campus, as well as ArtsBuild and Stove Works situated in downtown Chattanooga.

A Platform for Exchange and Learning

This workshop offers a rare opportunity for aspiring writers, students, and literature enthusiasts to engage with established authors and learn from their experiences. The event stands true to its commitment to creating an informal setting for an unbiased and equal exchange of works, ideas, and creative expressions. It is backed by an endowment primarily funded by the late professor and assistant Dean of Students at UTC, Jean Meacham, who wished to promote the art of writing and foster an inclusive community of writers and readers alike.

Featuring Christina Catherine Martinez

“We are extremely excited to bring Christina Catherine Martinez to the spring workshop,” declared Sybil Baker, the UC Foundation Professor, and director of the workshop. Martinez is a multitalented individual, known for her prowess as a writer, actor, comedian, and award-winning art critic. As a Meacham Fellow, she’ll lend her expertise to multiple events throughout the workshop.

Christina Catherine Martinez, winner of the Andy Warhol Foundation Arts Writers Grant in 2018, is slated to lead a reading at StoveWorks on Friday, March 22. Her portfolio boasts a collection of essays and cultural critiques published in various acclaimed journals and publications.

Proud Representation of UTC Alumni

Adding to the allure of the proceedings, the workshop will also feature four alumni from UTC, who will share their journey and experiences with the attendees. These distinguished alumni include L.S. McKee, Emilia Phillips, Alice Smith, and Cynthia Young. Each of these acclaimed authors has carved their space in the literary world and stands as proud representatives of UTC’s legacy in nurturing creative talents.

The alumni reading and reception are scheduled to take place at ArtsBuild on Thursday, March 21.

Aiming to Encourage Literary Arts

The workshop is fervently dedicated to its mission of granting UTC students and the underserved community members access to the realm of literary arts. By inviting talented individuals to contribute their diverse perspectives to the discussions, the workshop aims to foster creativity and inspire a deep appreciation for the written word.

Details about the Spring 2024 Meacham Writers’ Workshop and the event schedule are available through the official UTC webpage.

This enriching, week-long celebration of the written word never fails to foster an atmosphere of creativity and intellectual stimulation. Preparations are in full swing as Chattanooga eagerly awaits this marvelous literary fest.
