Chattanooga Rallies to Support Veterans Ahead of Veterans Day

CHATTANOOGA – With Veterans Day just around the corner on November 11th, the air in Hamilton County is filled with a spirit of gratitude and generosity. Various organizations are stepping up to shower our local veterans with support, whether it’s helping them schedule medical appointments or providing them with a warm, home-cooked meal. One such organization making waves is the American Legion, the largest wartime veterans service group in the country, which has been doing fantastic work to assist our brave veterans.

Meet Carylon Smith

Among the many passionate individuals involved with the American Legion is Carylon Smith, who has truly dedicated herself to this cause. Not only is she actively engaged with the American Legion, but she also took it a step further by authoring a heartfelt book titled Mike’s Journey. This book tells the moving story of Mike, examining his battle with cancer and the profound impact it had on everyone around him. Smith hosted a book signing this past weekend, bringing together readers and supporters to spread awareness about the exceptional work of the American Legion and its mission.

Holiday Spirit for Veterans

As the holiday season approaches, the American Legion is extending a hand to veterans and the families of veterans. They are rolling out the red carpet for those in need, offering warm meals, clothing, and even gifts for children throughout the area. It’s heartwarming to see the community come together and ensure that everyone feels the cheer of the season.

Giving Back to the Community

Even more inspiring is Carylon Smith’s generous decision to donate a portion of the proceeds from each copy of her book sold to the American Legion Post 214. This particular post has been incredibly effective, distributing over 73,000 pounds of food to families in need since the start of the year. Now that’s what we call giving back!

Thanksgiving Dinner for Veterans

To add to the Thanksgiving cheer, a free dinner will be hosted for veterans on November 28th. This is yet another opportunity for the community to show love and appreciation for those who have served. It will surely be a heartwarming event filled with food, camaraderie, and gratitude.

How to Get Involved

If you’re interested in supporting these initiatives and would like to grab a copy of Carylon’s book, Mike’s Journey is available for purchase online and at local bookstores, including Barnes and Noble. Not only will you enjoy a beautifully written story, but you’ll also be contributing to a cause that makes a real difference in the lives of our veterans. It’s a win-win!

Connecting with Others

As the community gears up to honor our veterans, it’s also a wonderful time to connect with our neighbors. Everyone is invited to partake in the festivities and lend a hand to those who have bravely served our nation. Whether it’s volunteering your time at the American Legion or simply reaching out to a veteran, every small effort counts and makes a difference.

Let’s come together, Chattanooga! As we prepare to celebrate our veterans this coming Monday, let’s reflect on their sacrifices and show our gratitude in meaningful ways. After all, it’s the highlights of community support and spirit that make this time of year so special.
