Teenage grief at store
On Saturday, an act of violence shocked the peaceful city of Chattanooga, Tennessee. A 14-year-old was shot in front of a busy convenience store on Shallowford Road in broad daylight. The Chattanooga Police Department confirmed that their officers responded to a distress call from the convenience store located in the 7900 block of Shallowford Road at 10:19 a.m.
Upon arrival at the scene, the law enforcement officers discovered a 14-year-old suffering from gunshot wounds. The officers described the teenager’s injuries as non-life-threatening. The victim was subsequently transported by the Hamilton County EMS to the nearest hospital for urgent medical attention.
The Chattanooga Police Department, through its preliminary investigation, established that the young victim was in a vehicle near the gas pumps of the convenience store when the assailants showed up. Emerging from other nearby vehicles, the suspects then opened fire on the vehicle housing the teenager. The driver of the said vehicle attempted to escape the shooting but ended up crashing the car into nearby woods. Fortunately, no other passengers in the vehicle were hit by the gunfire.
The suspects involved in the shooting incident reportedly fled the scene before the arrival of the police officers. The law enforcement authorities have since urged any persons with valuable information on the incident to step forward and assist in the investigation.
Chattanooga Police Department believes that this shooting appears to be a targeted incident. Although significant strides have been made in the preliminary investigation, several details surrounding the incident, including the identity of the persons behind this outrageous act, remain unclear.
