The incident occurred around 9 a.m. on Chestnut Street , nestled between Riverfront Parkway and West Aquarium Way. The venue is close to the popular IMAX theater , causing further inconvenience to both commuters and tourists in the area.

City’s Quick Action and Current Updates

A spokesperson from the City of Chattanooga provided an update, stating that Tennessee American Water struggled initially to completely shut off the water. “At that point, when the pumps catch up, we can access the damage and determine an estimated closure time,” Justin Strickland explained in an email.

Later updates clarified that repair works were expected to be completed by 4:45 PM , with water being restored to affected areas by that time. By 5:00 PM , a single northbound lane would reopen between Riverfront Parkway and W Aquarium Way. However, southbound Chestnut Street is projected to remain closed through Friday, August 30th , due to pending arrival of roadway surface repair materials.
