Exciting Creativity Blooms at We Make Festival in Chattanooga

Get ready to unleash your imagination, Chattanooga! On Saturday, May 3, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., the vibrant Chattanooga Green will transform into a magical playground celebrating everything inspired by creativity, art, and local talent during the annual We Make Festival.

A Family-Friendly Gathering

What makes this festival special? It’s completely free and designed with families in mind! Leave your worries at home and bring the entire crew for a day filled with fun activities that promise to entertain, inspire, and ignite those creative sparks in everyone, from toddlers to grandparents.

Art 120: Fostering Young Creators

At the heart of this event is Art 120, a local nonprofit that champions STE(A)M education (that’s Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics for the uninitiated). This fantastic organization works tirelessly to create opportunities for students, and this festival serves as a brilliant platform for budding artists to showcase their talents. From stunning visual art exhibits to exhilarating live performances, there’s no shortage of inspiration to be found at the festival.

Exciting Activities Awaits

What can you expect at the We Make Festival? A little bit of everything! Attendees can dive into hands-on activities that encourage creativity and exploration. Ever wanted to taste dishes from different corners of the globe? You’re in luck, as the festival will also feature an International Market & More series complete with international cuisine tastings that will take your taste buds on a trip around the world. The market will be open from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., showcasing local vendors and their delightful wares.

Honoring Young Talent

But wait, there’s more! The festival aims to recognize and reward local students’ hard work and creativity with over $1,600 in cash awards. Categories include everything from 2D and 3D art to live performances, and even unique creations in UpCycle fashion. The star of the show? The coveted Golden Gnome Award, a $500 cash prize for the most creative wheeled contraption crafted by a local student or school. It’s all about ingenuity, and we can’t wait to see what the students have dreamed up this year!

Art Cars: A Unique Feature

Calling all artists and car lovers! The festival welcomes participation from anyone with a flair for creativity—especially those who want to showcase their art cars. Bring your uniquely decorated vehicle to the festival and let it shine! Registrations for art cars are still open online, so don’t miss your chance to join in on the fun.

Creating Spaces for Expression

Kate Warren, the executive director of Art 120, shares the mission behind this exhilarating gathering: fostering imagination and ensuring that everyone in the community—especially students—feels empowered to express themselves through art. The festival really is more than just an event; it’s a celebration of the artistic spirit thriving in Hamilton County and Chattanooga.

Community Support

This fantastic festival wouldn’t be possible without the support of several key organizations, including the Tennessee Arts Commission, ArtsBuild, and the Hamilton County Department of Education, all joining forces to shine a spotlight on our local talent.
