YMCA To Supply Over Hundreds of Thousands of Free Meals to Children This Summer

Hamilton and Bradley County YMCAs to run massive Summer Feeding Program

The YMCA of Metropolitan Chattanooga, in tandem with both the J.A. Henry Community and North Georgia Community YMCAs, has announced that it will be running its Summer Feeding Program again this year. The program’s aim is to provide free meals to children aged 18 and under across 80 sites.

These meals will be available for all children, irrespective of their race, color, national origin, sex, age, or disability. The program functions on a first-come, first-served basis, ensuring that every child has a fair chance to get a free, nutritious meal during the summer months.

Volunteers and Donors Helping Hands

The Summer Feeding Program, which serves the communities of Chattanooga, Cleveland, and North Georgia, would not be possible without the invaluable help of volunteers and the generous support of donors. Last year, thanks to these contributions, the Y provided an incredible 302,000 healthy meals at 80 different sites.

The YMCA is in constant need of volunteers to take on various roles such as preparing meals, delivering them to the various sites, serving the food, and leading games and activities. Interested individuals looking to contribute to this noble cause are always welcome.

Find a Meal Site Near You

To make it easier for families to locate the nearest free meal sites, the Y offers a simple text messaging service. By texting the word “FOOD” to 304304, parents or guardians will receive information on the three closest locations.

Engaging with the YMCA’s Youth Food Programs

For more details on the Y’s Youth Food Programs, including how to become involved, the YMCA of Metropolitan Chattanooga provides various resources on their official website. Individuals can also stay updated on program information, volunteering opportunities, and meal site locations through their active social media platforms.

This initiative by the YMCA to ensure that no child goes hungry during the summer break signifies a fundamental step towards eliminating food insecurity in our community. This year, the organization aims to provide even more meals than in previous years, making a crucial difference in the lives of thousands of kids and families in the region.

All eyes are now on this remarkable organization as they ramp up their preparations for the Summer Feeding Program. With the support of the community, volunteers, and generous donors, the YMCA’s mission to offer hundreds of thousands of free meals to children this summer can certainly be achieved.
