Young Men Arrested After High-Speed Chase Through Chattanooga

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. — A routine traffic stop turned dramatic on Thursday when two 19-year-olds led police on a chase through the city, tossing a gun and a scale out of their car in an apparent attempt to get rid of evidence.

Chattanooga police attempted to stop the vehicle at the intersection of Shallowford Road and Jersey Pike. However, instead of complying, the driver sped off, leading officers on a pursuit down Jersey Pike. According to an affidavit from the police, they noticed something suspicious being thrown out of the passenger’s side of the car when they passed the 4100 block of Jersey Pike.

As reported by authorities, the discarded item was later identified as a silver Smith and Wesson pistol. Moments after that, a scale was also thrown from the car’s passenger side. The police picked up both items and determined that the pistol had a loaded magazine with one bullet in the chamber. Additionally, the scale showed traces of marijuana residue, indicating it may have been used in drug-related activity.

After a brief but intense chase, police managed to stop the car and arrested the two occupants—19-year-olds Eugene Callaham and Dejohn Colvin. Both now face multiple charges, including evading arrest and tampering with evidence. The full list of charges is yet to be made public.

The incident underscores ongoing concerns about youth involvement in firearm-related activities and drug use. “It’s alarming to see young people get caught up in such dangerous situations,” said a local resident who wished to remain anonymous. “We need more community programs to prevent this kind of behavior.”
